Holyoke Hercules Turbine Web Page
The first hydraulic turbines I worked on were at the North Village Hydroelectric Plant in Webster, Massachusetts. They were Holyoke Hercules turbines manufactured by the Holyoke Machine Company in Holyoke, Massachusetts. They were the first true mixed flow runners of a high efficiency. James Becheno Francis developed the first mixed flow turbine. His machine did not have the circumferential discharge buckets on the bottom of the runner. It took John B. McCormick to add the classic discharge buckets to Francis' turbine.
